The Chief Electoral Officer

Punjab

Chandigarh

Sub: Allowing Mudslinging & Character Assassination in Election Campaigns

Madam,

It is my suggestion that the Election Commission should not take notice if the rival candidates stoop to mudslinging and even character assassination to some extent. It has the following advantages

1. It helps the voter to make up their mind in choosing the candidate who is less corrupt than others. Sometimes choice becomes difficult when two rival candidates are looters of the same level.

2. When candidates dig each other’s scandals it provides entertainment to the public and they get involved in the democratic process with greater interest.

3. It gives color to the otherwise dry elections.

4. It is only election days when those misdeeds and secret properties of the candidates surface naturally before public which otherwise are hard to dig out even by CBI and intelligence bureau.

5. Media should in fact offer subsidized rates to those ads in which lampooning of the candidates are done by their rival candidates and parties.

6. Cartoons and parodies featuring kaka ji, maharaja or dissidents running from party to party should be in fact encouraged. It evokes creativity of the artists, writers and singers.

This is just my suggestion as a social satirist but as far as my responsibility as a brand icon is concerned I appeal to all valid voters to cast their votes judiciously without any fear and greed.

Jaspal Bhatti

The Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, viewed our award winning animation film ‘Bunty’s Tree’ at capital town, Shimla on Thursday. The film has been produced and created by MAD ARTS,Jaspal Bhatti Film School .

Chief Minister appreciated the concept of the film which conveys the perfect message of environment protection in a sentimental manner. He commended Jaspal Singh Bhatti for producing the film, which although very short, was capable of forcing people to think of planting more trees and protecting the environment for the sustenance of all the living beings. He said that the idea of having no audible dialogue had made the film conveying to the people by crossing all barriers of written and spoken communications. He said that the film leaves a lasting impact on the viewers and make them think of protecting the environment.

The animation film highlights the problem of vanishing green cover of Earth in a most impressive manner. The film is set in the picturesque landscape of district Kinnaur in Himachal Pradesh with local costumes and ambience of the area. The film had been directed by Jasraj Singh Bhatti, Jaspal Bhatti’s son.

Jaspal Bhatti said that the setting of the film was based on the picturesque locations in district Kinnaur and local ambience and costume had also been used befittingly. He said that the film had been adjudged the Best Short Film in Los Angeles, USA, and also nominated for CMS Vatavaran India’s foremost Environmental Festival. He said that the film carried a simple message conveyed effectively without entering into too many complexities and confusing analysis. He said that the film had been a project of students who had worked hard to give final shape to their ideas.

In yet another spoof on politicians, humourist and satirist Jaspal Bhatti today announced to set up a National Foundation-Stone Factory here.

SAB TV Business Head Anooj Kapoor inaugurated the unique project of the Jaspal Bhatti’s National Foundation Stone Factory in Industrial area, Mohali here by unveiling its foundation stone. The factory will cater to the ever growing demand of foundation stones in this region and rest of India, Bhatti said while speaking on the occasion. He said as the Assembly elections in Punjab, UP, Gujarat and some other states were round the corner, Chief Ministers and ministers were laying foundation stones every day. Sometimes ministers forget they have already laid the foundation stone for a bridge and they redo it. Sometimes the foundation stones get lost in grass and bushes when remain unattended for years, Bhatti added.

Mr Anooj Kapoor said, We decided to associate with Jaspal Bhatti s Nonsense club s activity as they are doing this political satire as a tribute to RK Laxman. Also, Jaspal Bhatti has a light hearted take on a lot of social themes and so does SAB TV. Bhatti, who also started off as a cartoonist and became an ace satirist of TV, admitted that his greatest inspiration had always been RK Laxman. He said Laxman had drawn many cartoons on foundation stones and when he noticed the Chief Ministers splashing on foundation stone laying ceremonies he came up with idea of this novel money spinning industry.

On this occasion, Bhatti and his team also performed on a parody song Aap ne yaad dilaya to mujeh yaad aya, key eh neev pathar mere hathon ne hi tha lagaya . Brijesh Ahuja sang the song and students of Mad Arts Film School in the attire of construction workers danced around the foundation stone.
